We got started on the simple idea, that when food, wine, culture, history, and people combine, something very exciting is born!

Hi! Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit our page. I’m Annie Breheny, founder of Arizona Food Tours. Originally from Santa Fe, NM I moved to Scottsdale shortly after graduating college. I started Arizona Food Tours in 2008, when I noticed a surplus of truly amazing restaurants, big name chefs, and culinary gems right in my backyard, yet there seemed to be a shortage of organized activities highlighting these options in Old Town Scottsdale.
With so many incredible restaurants to discover, and fun places hang out, Scottsdale seemed the ideal place to provide a top-notch culinary experience. I already absolutely loved when friends and family would visit so I could share all of my recommendations. The only problem was that I had too many favorites! It was then we decided to become the first ever food tour in the state of Arizona!
Immediately I began by targeting establishments, specifically restaurants, wineries, and specialty shops, with proven track record and culinary notoriety in the Scottsdale area. With the most important factor being that all were locally owned. The reward of working with local businesses and seeing our guests enjoy themselves has been astonishing. Whether its the locals who are surprised what they learn about their own community, or tourists looking to explore the area, there is nothing better than people saying that they had a great vacation to AZ, and their favorite part was their time spend with Arizona Food Tours. Hard to believe we are now entering our 9th season on the local food tour scene!
Having known Annie for many years dating back to our middle school days growing up in Santa Fe, I eagerly volunteered my services to help an old friend in any way possible with her initial venture into the world of food tours in Arizona.
My first ever decent paying job was working in a restaurant at age 14, and I’d continued in the path of hospitality with my jobs throughout college. When I moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 2004 and my attempt at a career in marketing didn’t fully come into fruition, I immediately gravitated back to the immense opportunities within the field of hospitality in the area.
Living in Scottsdale and working at the time as the Dining Room Captain at Sushi Roku inside the W Hotel, I found Annie’s idea of starting a food tour in Scottsdale incredibly appealing. Between our intricate knowledge of restaurants and connections within the local dining scene, and an appreciation for diverse cuisines combined with our passion for service, I knew we had the right recipe for success.
Initially I was able to help as a part-time tour director and continued as such for the first 2 years. In 2011 I was blessed with the chance to turn my job at Arizona Food Tours into a full-time position, partnering with Annie, and helping to create more opportunities to expand our tour services.
To this day my favorite part of the job is giving the tours. It always will be. The satisfaction from happy guests with a smile and a full belly, is a simple yet most beautiful reward for all the hard work.
